Malawi claims to be the “Warm Heart of Africa” and Malawi lived up to its reputation in every sense. Everyone we met (or even just waved to as we drove past!) welcomed us with big smiles, endless generosity, and an endearing spirit.
Malawians drew us in and made us thankful for the opportunity to learn from each other. Here are three of the messages we’ve brought home from Malawi…
1. Be Eager to Learn
We were met with such an overwhelming gratitude that we had traveled to Malawi to share our knowledge. Malawians crave knowledge like Americans crave burgers and the French crave cheese. We hope we’re returning with an open mind to learn from everyone we meet.
2. Have a Cooperative Nature
Malawi functions in a team-oriented culture and embodies being others-centered. They work for those around them. If it’s better for Malawi, it’s better for them. The End. They firmly believe in the power of “team” over the power of “one.” Cooperation is key.
3. Let Your Passion Withstand Hardships
Malawians haven’t had it easy. Small, land-locked, and easily forgotten, Malawi has lagged behind its neighbors in making its mark on the world stage. Nevertheless, Malawians are still determined, driven, and resilient: Malawi will have its moment and the world will take notice.
