Hello Partners and Friends!
Ginger and I are thrilled to share some very exciting Dery family news with you! Rachel is engaged! You may remember us introducing you to Bjorn – our now future Son-in-Law – a few months ago as an official faceter for the Roger Dery Gem Collection! We couldn’t be happier with this turn of events. We have loved adding Bjorn to our “family business” and now it’s true in every way! As a faceter, I have to say he did a fantastic job on Rachel’s square cushion 6.32ct Tanzanite!
Rachel and Bjorn’s story goes back many, many years interwoven with our work in East Africa…

If you’re a long-time Gem Journal recipient, you’ve probably already heard about Pia and Sune Merisheki – our dear friends who own a Tanzanite mine!
I (Roger) met Sune 11 years ago through another friend while I was visiting Tanzania. He has been invaluable in helping me navigate East Africa, in addition to him and Pia being essential on-the-ground ambassadors for Gem Legacy and helping us impact so many lives. They have dedicated themselves to serving others!

Somehow, Rachel and Bjorn didn’t meet until 2018 on Rachel’s 4th visit to Africa. Little did we know, my visit with Sune 9 years before would change our lives forever!
Bjorn learned how to facet and spent several months apprenticing with me before becoming an official faceter for our collection.
Ginger and I are thrilled to welcome him to our family and wish we could have been there when he proposed on a cliff of the Usambara Mountains in Tanzania overlooking the Umba Valley – home to many beautiful gemstones!
